THANK YOU! $4,590 Raised in 2024

Charity Drawing

Every year at CaptainCon, we hold a charity drawing to support a local non-profit organization doing important work to help improve the lives of those around us. We may be pirates, but we’re compassionate pirates who have raised thousands of dollars for good causes. For 2025, we’re supporting Rosie’s Place in Boston.

On Easter Sunday 1974, Rosie’s Place was founded as the first shelter for women in the country. They founded a sanctuary of hope, a place where every woman is welcomed, listened to, understood, and loved. Today, in addition to offering women in need emergency shelter and meals, Rosie's Place provides a variety of services and resources to Bostonians in need. These include a food pantry, ESOL classes, legal assistance, wellness care, one-on-one support, housing and job search services, and community outreach. At Rosie’s Place, women in need find support, opportunity, and the tools they need to make a new start.

Rosie’s Place accepts no government funding. They rely on private donations such as funds raised through the CaptainCon Charity Drawing to remain a safety net for women struggling to survive during these difficult days.

You can learn more about Rosie’s Place at their website.

How it Works

That’s the easy part. Companies, game stores, and individual gamers from around the community all donate items to the drawing prize pool. At the show, attendees can buy tickets to the drawing throughout Friday and Saturday. On Saturday night, we all gather in the Grand Ballroom for the drawing. We pull a ticket from the hat (OK, it’s usually a storage tote by that point because we sold so many tickets) and read the number. If your number comes up, you come to the front, pick a prize from the drawing prize pool, have your photo taken with your prize, and walk away with something cool for supporting a good cause while we draw the next ticket. We keep going like this until every prize in the pool has been claimed.

Because everything is donated for the prize pool and the convention covers the logistics like permits and such, 100% of the money from selling drawing tickets goes to the charity.
